<< I think I may have titled an entry "Weekend Update" before, so I will think of something more original. How does "My Weekend" work for you? >>

We had a fire drill earlier tonight. It was actually kinda scary...they filled the first floor hall with fake smoke and we had to find our way out. It was impossible to see anything. I just hope we don't have to worry about a real fire.

I had a fairly eventful weekend; and even though you have all heard this already, I am going to tell it again...

On Friday morning around 5, all of the first year girls in the dorm got phone calls. These calls ranged from hang ups to rather obscene conversations. Because so many girls were affected, we had to file a police report. Granted, I was in class when the report was filed, but it still sucks. Megan went out of town that night, and because I was too afraid that the guy would call back, I slept on the floor in another room. It stinks...I shouldn't be afraid.

On Saturday morning, my hall painted bricks that we could use to prop open our doors. On one side of the brick, I painted the letters, "MN4EVR". Figure out what it means...I know you can do it. It was so much fun...we had great weather for it. At one point, I just laid on the banister and took in the sun. It was very relaxing.

That night, a group of girls and I decieded to go to a party held by the hockey team. I haven't really been out since I got here, so I was excited to go. What a bust it turned out to be! In the first five minutes of being there, I saw a girl doing a beer bong and a guy peeing in the yard like it was nothing. It was dark and crowded and noisy and very impersonal. After about 10 minutes, my friend, Lisa, and I decided to walk uptown to try to find Lisa's friend's house. We were unsuccessful, so we ended up going back to the hockey party to tell the girls we had left there that we were going back to the dorm.

Later that night, a group of first years got back from a night of heavy partying. Instead of going to her room like she should have, one of the girls went to socialize. As the RA came down to the room to tell them that they were being too loud, he sat with them while the drunk girl talked about her night. While she never really said that she had been drinking, it wouldn't take a genius to figure it out. The RA wrote her up.

Instead of learning from what happened, she is fighting the report. She is writing her own version of the events, in which she lies about how much she had to drink (8 versus 2). All I can say is, if she gets the RA in trouble, I will be pissed. Matt was doing his job. And he is such a nice guy...

Sunday was spent doing laundry and getting caught up on the homework I hadn't done over the weekend. I was a little overwhelmed. At one point, I was talking to Kenny on IM, and I must have sounded especially frazzled, because later that day, I got an e-mail that was the lyrics to "Bridge over Troubled Water". It was from him. That was honestly one of the nicest things anyone has ever done for me, and the fact that it was from him is so awesome.

So that, in summary, was my weekend. Today we had the "Meet the Candidates" meeting for Hall Council. The girl that got written up for drinking was still allowed to run for President. If she wins, I will spit. Literally.

I heard this song on the radio today and I realized that I love it so much. This will be played at my wedding. Just thought you should know.

love I get so lost, sometimes

days pass and this emptiness fills my heart

when I want to run away

I drive off in my car

but whichever way I go

I come back to the place you are

all my instincts, they return

and the grand facade, so soon will burn

without a noise, without my pride

I reach out from the inside

"In Your Eyes" Peter Gabriel
